It has a long history of being used in Chinese and Indian medicine for boosting libido and fertility, flushing fluid buildup (edema), reducing kidney stones, and fighting urinary infections.
It contains active components such as the alkaloids harmande, nonharmane, and tribulusterine, phenolic amides such as terrestrosides Ab and b, tannins, phytosterols, cinnamic acid, vanillic acid, tribulus acid, and the amino acids alanine and threonine.
