Origin: isolated from the bark of magnolia trees
Also Known As:
Magnolia officinalis
Hu-bak
Overview:
Magnolol and honokiol are the two primary active phenolic constituents of Magnolia bark extract. These are used today in various cosmetic and weight loss products
Honokiol is a bioactive and biphenolic phytochemical. It has therapeutic potential in anxiety, pain, cerebrovascular injury, epilepsy, and cognitive disorders including Alzheimer’s disease. It has been traditionally used in medical practices throughout much of Southeast Asia, but has now become more widely studied due to its pleiotropic effects.
Magnolol, meanwhile, is an isomer of honokiol. It has antifungal, osteoblast-stimulating, and osteoclast-inhibiting properties. Studies also reveal that it has anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumorigenic, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, anti-neurodegenerative and antidepressant properties. Magnolol can also effectively regulate pain control, hormonal signalling, gastrointestinal and uterus modulation as well as provide cardiovascular and liver protective effects.
Common Dosage: 300 mg two to three times per day
