Overview: Cocoa powder is obtained by pulverizing dry cocoa solids. It contains flavanol antioxidants which helps in fighting cellular oxidative damage. It is also rich in minerals including calcium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc. All of these minerals are found in greater quantities in cocoa powder than either cocoa butter or chocolate liquor.
Because of the compounds and nutrients it contains, cocoa powder is touted for its ability to protect the heart, lower blood pressure, improve eyesight, and promote bone health.
It is used as a flavoring agent in the food and beverages industry as well as in sports nutrition.
