Overview: Caffeine is a naturally-occurring stimulant that affects the central nervous system. It is most prominently derived from coffee beans. It blocks the action of adenosine on its receptor and consequently prevents the onset of drowsiness induced by adenosine. Caffeine also stimulates certain portions of the autonomic nervous system.
Apart from being a psychoactive stimulant, it is also often used as an ingredient in post-workout supplements as an ergogenic aid. It also has applications in skincare products.
