Overview: Black cohosh is an herbaceous perennial plant native to North America. Its roots and rhizomes are used in traditional Native American medicine. Its extract is also manufactured as herbal medicine and dietary supplements.
Its key active component is fukinolic acid, an estrogen-like compound which may be beneficial for women in their menopausal stages. It is often regarded as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy and is sometimes used to treat menstrual irregularities and to alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
Common Dosage: According to studies, a dosage of 20 mg to 200 mg daily can prove to be beneficial for women.
