Overview: Orthosiphon Stamineus is an herb widely grown in tropical areas. It has flowers that bear white or purple flowers with long protruding stamens. It is commonly known as Java tea and is taken as an herbal tea in various parts of Asia.
Phytochemicals isolated from the herb include terpenes, flavonoids, caffeic acid derivatives and essential oils. The polyphenol Sinensetin is also found in Orthosiphon stamineus. The plant exhibits diuretic, hypouricemic, renal protective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, gastroprotective, anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-microbial, and anorexic activities
